GeoPOP3: £2.475m of Industry Funding
Drilling hydrocarbon exploration wells is a costly and potentially hazardous activity because subsurface fluid pressures at target depths can greatly exceed hydrostatic pressure. The GeoPOP3 research aims are to improve pore pressure prediction and estimation in mudrocks, reduce uncertainty in those predictions, and improve reservoir quality prediction in sandstones. Principal investigators for individual projects are Prof Neil Goulty, Dr Stuart Jones, Prof Andy Aplin, Dr Richard Hobbs (Earth Sciences), Dr David Wooff (Mathematics), Dr Mo Rouainia (Newcastle University) and Prof Richard Swarbrick (Ikon GeoPressure).
